The Wedding Favors

The inspiration...
Our version...

From the very beginning my goal was to include as much of us as possible in our wedding. I love purple, lavender, and we love cooking. I wish I had a green thumb and could actually say I enjoy growing the herbs that I cook with but sadly I did not get my mother's green thumb. Still we thought herbs would be a great gift to give our guests (hopefully they can keep things alive better then I can).

This was one of the projects that I was afraid I was going to have to nix but ended up being great. At first we were going to get terra cotta pots. They were .88 cents at Micheal's I think. This was going to be a big expense. We spent a lot of time walking around walmart, target, and the mall in preperation for our wedding. One day I ran across something like these at walmart. We paid $10 for 70 of them. This saved us $34. Then I bought some purple raffia to tie around them.

The herbs were what I was afraid I wouldn't be able to find. I couldn't find them too far in advance or I would kill them but I also had to have time to replant them. I attempted to start them from seed, hahaha. Spent about $30 attempting this. Some sprouted but I ended up killing them all with in 2 weeks. Poor herbs! I found some about a month in advance at a local tailgate market but wasn't ready to purchase them. I got his email and said I would let him know what I needed. The basil and thyme was $1 a plant (what I was looking to pay), the lavender &  rosemary (which I wanted the most) were $3.50 and I wasn't going to pay that. I did end up getting the basil and thyme from him the week before the wedding though. I found some more herbs at the flea market for around $2 which was reasonable. Let them know I would call them and tell them what I wanted. Of course I lost their phone number. Frustrated, I looked up herbs in Asheville and low and behold there was an herb festival the weekend before my wedding at our farmer's market! SCORE! We walk around till I found rosemary and lavender for $2 a plant. Talked to a wonderful lady and bought what we needed. She threw in a couple of extra lavender plants and a really sweet note. All in all we paid $84 for the herbs. We could have gotten away with buying a lot less. We had a lot left over.

The plant markers were made with purple scrapbook paper, Martha Stuart Butterfly punch, craft pick's from Micheal's, and a silver sharpie.

The Invitaions

The inspiration came from Pinterest like most of the other wedding projects.

And the blog it came from. The writer of the blog does a much better job at outlining the steps.

Our version
We wanted to use similar colors that we were using in the wedding along with dried lavender.
The Aspen Green mulberry paper came from here http://handmade-paper.us, the actual invitation paper came from www.paperandmore.com, we used the Recycled Sand Specks. We bought the raffia at Micheal's and the lavender from a local shop. I designed and printed my own invitations.

Total cost including postage was $124.60

The Superhero Photo Booth

We set out to make this a simple/cheap project. It turned out to be anything but. Originally we were going to get a shower curtain for the backdrop and some cheap masks and capes for props.

We couldn't find a shower curtain that matched the superhero theme so we decided to make one ourselves. First we bought acrylic paint and a plastic shower curtain. The paint flaked of the shower curtain. Did some more research and read a blog where someone had used a sheet to make a shower curtain and used acrylic paint on the sheet. This worked. Found an image that we liked for inspiration. So the fun began...

Between the two of us we spent probably 15 hours on this project. That doesn't include the time it took me to sew the capes.

We put the photo booth up in a small cabin near our reception. We used my canon rebel xti on a tripod. We had a remote so that guests could take their own pictures and a . In retrospect I really wish we had been able to have someone else taking the pictures. At one point one of the guests zoomed in so there were some afterwards that were too close up.

Superheros at the Wedding

Some where along the way we started including more and more superheros in to our wedding plan. What started with hubby wanting a batman wedding band turned in to Batman cufflinks, a superhero grooms cake, my Wonder Woman garter, Batman gifts for the groomsmen, and then finally our superhero photo booth (which turned it to the biggest project we did).

The Batman wedding band was easy to find. We turned to ebay. As we did for the cufflinks, ribbon and button for the garter, action figures for the cake and the Batman belt buckles we gave the boys as junior groomsmen gifts.
The Batman ring that started it all.
The Wonder Woman garter. I made this with star ribbon, red ribbon, and a Wonder Woman pin.
The sign that my nephew was suppose to carry down the aisle, unfortunately he hadn't had a nap and just wasn't up for it. The sign is made of foam core using the this font
The Groom's Cake! The action figures had to be ordered from the UK because they don't have them in the United States. The link is here.
The buildings are made of fondant and then colored with food coloring pens.

The photo booth was a bit more complicated. A full length post to follow about the trials and tribulations of a DIY superhero photo booth.

So our whimsical rustic wedding turned it to whimsy with a bit of quirky,

Intro...

I am getting married May 12th. I am not always great about keeping up with my blogs and not many people read them but writing is good for me and at least it give me a record of past events.

So anyway... I AM GETTING MARRIED!

This blog is going to be my inspiration board, planning journal, and eventually will include the pictures from the actual event so I can see how my vision came together.

Here is the pinterest board that I made for inspiration. http://pinterest.com/emily381/my-wedding/

Update... I never got to post anything during the actual wedding planning so I am hoping to blog about every thing we did so all those DIY people out there can learn from my mistakes and successes.
